Plantains are a type of fruit that is a staple of many diets in many countries of the world, including Nigeria. Plantain looks exactly like banana but it is larger than banana, it is starchier and not as sweet as banana.
Plantains grow abundantly in tropical climates and come in a variety of green or yellow colours. Yellow plantains have a sweet taste and are softer than green plantain. If a plantain peel is turning black, it is an indicator that the plantain is ripe, and can be eaten like bananas.
You can eat it by boiling, frying, and you can also pound it. It can also be processed into flour for baking.
